Reported by: Sarah Hopkins Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @11:48pm EST SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - A man's journey for one last ride took him through Shepherdstown Thursday night.
Fifty years ago, Alfred Hobbs and his ex-wife Jakobine spent five years traveling in a 1934 London taxi. They crossed the Sahara Desert, battled flat tires, and even met the Dali Lama. Now, the 84-year-old Hobbs and the couple's son, Neils, are making a surprise cross- country journey to talk Jakobine into one last ride. Their trip is being filmed by a crew of documentary film makers. "She's going to be completely, completely shocked, that's for sure because as far as she knows this taxi hasn't run, said Neils Hobbs. "It's been a rust bucket for forty, fifty years." The pair is expected to arrive at Jakobine's home in New York State on Sunday. |
