Reported by: Jamie Burke Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @06:15pm EST CHARLES TOWN, WV - Groups that want table games in Jefferson County have released a study that, not surprisingly, touts its benefits.
Among the claims, it says the average hourly wage in the Charles Town area will rise to about $22 an hour. The intent of the study was to document the facts and figures behind video lottery terminals and table gaming in the county. The study showed significant growth in business because of the race track in Jefferson County. It also found that the addition of table games would mean more money and jobs for the local economy. "The study came out positive for Charles Town Races and Slots. There is no doubt that revenues haven't benefited almost every citizen in West Virginia in one form or another, but the study is not coming out and saying that we support table gaming in Jefferson County," says Mark Dyck with the Jefferson County Development Authority. There will also be table games forum for the public to ask questions of both sides of the issue on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the War Memorial Building in Shepherdstown hosted by the League of Women Voters of Jefferson County. |
