Reported by: Adam Winer Saturday, Oct 31, 2009 @05:59pm EDT RANSON, WV - The ghosts of Civil War's past returned to West Virginia for Halloween.
Civil Ear re-enactors are gathering this weekend at the Ranson Civic Center as part of a program called "John Brown’s Predictions Come True." The program includes a number of speakers, a living history encampment and a period Civil War church service on Sunday. Organizers say it's a way for the public to appreciate the Civil War history of this area. Kirk Davies Sr. of the Jefferson County Commission said, "[It] brought the flavor of the Civil War, and we want to make that more and more. This is the 150th John Brown and this is going to be our first annual October event of the Civil War." Town officials are planning a re-enactment of the return of John Brown to Charles Town on December 2nd. |
