Reported by: Jamie Burke Friday, Oct 16, 2009 @06:09pm EDT HARPERS FERRY, WV - Events honoring the 150th anniversary of John Brown's raid in Harpers Ferry are already underway, but there are plenty of other events honoring the anniversary this weekend.
This weekend Harpers Ferry National Park is commemorating the life of John Brown and his men who led a raid to free the slaves 150 years ago. The park is holding events all weekend long for both children and adults. Activities include musical performances, lectures, signings, and a whole tent devoted to youth and family activities. There will also be living history presentations, story telling and puppetry. All of them will be free to the public. The rain should not stop anyone from coming out this weekend. The park service says that nothing will be canceled due to the rain. "We're not canceling anything I know of right now because of the rain. We have tents and heat in the tents so people can come and be comfortable and still enjoy the John Brown celebration," says Marsha Wassel with Harpers Ferry National Park.
