Reported by: Sarah Hopkins Friday, Sep 4, 2009 @10:38pm EDT WINCHESTER, VA - Boots and hats crowded Winchester's George Washington hotel, and, no, it wasn't a rodeo.
It was a fund-raiser to restore the former home of country music legend Patsy Cline. Prizes were awarded to the best boots and the best hat. For Cline's fans-- restoring the house is an important part of honoring an icon-- that they say means so much to Winchester. Organizers say people traveled from across the country to help with the fund-raiser. "It's music that truly is timeless. The recordings are over forty years old, sometimes fifty, and they still sound very current and its music that all fans can relate to," said Jimmy Walker. Cline lived on South Kent Street in Winchester during the earliest years of her career. |
