FROSTBURG, MD - For 40 years Maryland’s Summer Centers have given gifted and talented students a way to continue to excel over the summer.
The Summer Centers give gifted and talented students the chance to pursue curriculum they wouldn't have a chance to see in school.
State lawmakers cut the center's budget for fiscal year 2010.
The program director says without another source of sponsorship they won't be able to open next year.
Gerry Wojnar, Center Co-Founder says, it’s devastating, it is so important to help these students develop their talent, it's very difficult for all the school systems across the state to have.”
Directors say much of the money for the centers has gone to subsidizing tuition so that students from all socio-economic backgrounds have a chance to attend.
