Charya Lon joined the NBC25 team as a general assignment news reporter in June of 2009.
She was born in a Thailand refugee camp and through a series of miracles made it the United States.
      Charya's mother is her hero.  Her mom, Sokcheat, survived the Cambodian Genocide.  She then risked her life to escape into Thailand.
Sokcheat knew there was no hope or future for her family in war torn Cambodia.
       In May of 2003 Charya's mom was on the Oprah Winfrey Show sharing her story.  It was a show honoring extraordinary mothers.
       Because of her mother's inspiration, Charya always wanted to take advantage of America's opportunities. Charya graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelors degree in Communications focusing on Media Production.
At Mason Charya co-created and co-anchored the university's news show called MCN Updates. During Charya's Senior year she interned at Loudoun TV.
Charya's first TV job was with TV3 Winchester News.
Charya is a Southern California native.  She grew up in the city of Brea, which is only 10 minutes away from Disneyland.
She moved to Northern Virginia in 2001 when she married her husband, Seth.
Charya loves being involved with the media world.  She is a proud member of the Radio Television News Directors Association.
When Charya is not at NBC25, she loves spending time with her husband, family, friends, and her two cats.
