Reported by: Jacqueline Waite Saturday, Apr 18, 2009 @11:30pm EDT MIDDLETOWN, MD - Sheriff's investigators believe a Middletown man shot his wife and three children before killing himself.
Christopher Wood, 34, left behind five suicide notes, and one of them indicated he had psychological problems, Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said Saturday evening. The victims have been identified as Frances Billotti Wood, 33, along with the couple's children, a five-year-old boy, a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl. Wood was found in her bed with her daughter. The two boys were found in their beds. All had been shot with a .25-caliber pistol, Jenkins said. They also had traumatic cuts and stab wounds. Mr. Wood's body was found at the foot of the bed. Investigators believe he shot himself with a shotgun. Autopsies will be performed Sunday in Baltimore, Sheriff Jenkins said. Mrs. Wood's parents discovered the five bodies while checking on the family Saturday morning. The home was locked, Sheriff Jenkins said.Police say they have found evidence that the family had been going through financial problems recently. The family moved to Middletown four months ago from the Jacksonville, Florida area. The house is on the first block of Washington Street. The family priest said the children would often wave to him as he rode past the home on his scooter. He said special prayers were said for the family in a service Saturday evening. Christopher Wood was a sales accountant at CSX, Sheriff Jenkins said. Frances Billotti Wood's Facebook profile shows her as an active volunteer who enjoys yoga and "spending time with her family." She went by the name "Francie." She writes that her interests are "yoga, reading, cooking, shopping, my husband :), the environment, politics, travel, volunteering." ![]() She is listed as a member of the Board of Directors for Volunteer Frederick. She graduated Middletown High School in 1994 and was helping to plan a class reunion, according to close friends. Animal control removed a dog from the house around 11 a.m. Area residents have been bringing flowers and stuffed animals to the front porch of the Woods' home throughout the evening in memory of the family. |
