  • Fundraiser At Correctional Facility Benefits Fallen Off...
    Reported by: Jacqueline Waite

    Thursday, Nov 13, 2008 @06:54pm EST

HAGERSTOWN, MD - It's a good lunch for a good cause.

On Thursday, the Maryland Correctional Training Center sold sausage sandwiches to raise money for the family of fallen police Officer Mark Bremer.

Sausage sandwiches, potato chips and baked goods are common foods that most people like.  But they're even more appealing because of the family behind the annual fundraiser.

"We were trying to think of some family to do it for this year, and then when Mark passed away, we thought this is the perfect person to pick to do it for his family," said Terri Hollingshead, an MCTC office supervisor.

Frederick City Police Officer Mark Bremer was killed during a high speed chase in October.  Now corrections officers are hoping to raise $1,300 for the family of the fallen officer, who was also a former corrections officer at MCTC.

The sandwiches were sold to the corrections facility staff, and the phone was ringing off the hook with orders from other area prisons.

The sausage sale wasn't the only fundraiser going on at MCTC.  The facility was also collecting donations for veterans at Martinsburg Veterans Hospital and the REACH Cold Weather Shelter.

MCTC officers say they raised just over $1,300.

Frederick City Police are also planning a fundraiser for the Bremer family at Chick-Fil-A in Frederick next week.  Chick-Fil-A on Urbana Pike will donate half of the evening's sales on Wednesday November 19th to the Mark Bremer Memorial Fund.
