  • Family's Home Burglarized While On Vacation, Neighbors ...
    Reported by: Jennifer Von Reuter

    Monday, Aug 18, 2008 @06:18pm EDT

BERKELEY COUNTY, WV - A Berkeley County family is picking up the pieces after burglars raided their home as they were getting ready to move, and the suspects weren’t strangers to the family.

Thou shalt not steal, especially from thy neighbor.  The Nines family wishes three people across from their home heeded that advice.

"We feel violated.  They acted like our friends.  They came into our house and all this time they were scoping what they were going to take," said Steven Nines.

Steven and Gina Nines came home from vacation to find their home ransacked.  Television sets, DVD's, heirloom jewelry and $15,000 worth in collectible baseball and football cards were taken.  The main suspects are their neighbors.

It didn't take long for police to find the suspects.  They followed a trail of stolen items.

"There were one or two baseball cards that were a little bit closer to the victims’ house, the few pieces of paper that had pictures on it that came from the victims’ house were just almost right in front of where we recovered the stolen property," said Deputy R.L. Steerman with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.

Gregory Long (pictured above), Bryon Stoneburner (pictured left) and Sean Stoneburner (pictured below) were all taken into custody.

"They're material items that can be replaced, but there are some things that had sentimental value I’m lucky I got back that wasn't broken," Gina said.

Although most of their things were returned, the Nines say they'll be happy to leave the neighborhood as soon as they can since the suspects are right across the street.
