Reported by: Scott Hershberger Wednesday, Jul 30, 2008 @05:07pm EDT GREENCASTLE, PA - Everyone drinks water, but some researchers say you may also be drinking plastic if you re-use certain bottles.Brian Denton enjoys a nice bottle of water, but he also enjoys the environment. "Last year I was spending about $20 a week on bottled water, and what had happened was that I knew these bottles weren't safe to be reused, and they were piling up in my car," he said. So he created "Project Earth H2O." The goal is to offer safe, eco-friendly water bottles that won't leave consumers drinking plastic, but will save them money. For example, Denton says 40 percent of all bottled water is regular tap water. If he refills his eco-friendly bottle with filtered tap water at his house 100 times, it will cost significantly less than the cost of buying 100 bottles of water.Denton has already sold about 3,000 of the bottles since they first went on sale last month. They’re not available in stores yet. All of the shopping is being done online. "We are creating a community of consumers and we are doing this by donating 10 percent of all of our profits back to environmental charities,” he explained. “So when people actually purchase a Project H2O water bottle, they are making a difference just by purchasing." Denton says Project Earth H2O is currently creating polypropylene water bottles. For ordering information, click here. |
