CHAMBERSBURG, PA - Congressman Bill Shuster says he’s tired of paying high prices for foreign oil, and on Tuesday afternoon he announced his plan to change that.
"You can't just go out and buy a new car because it's very expensive. So they're really looking for leadership in Congress to come forward with ways to get these prices down," Shuster (R-District 9) told NBC25.
The congressman says it's time to stop drilling overseas, and begin searching for oil in America.
Shuster believes Congress needs to look at a comprehensive plan. His long term goals include, coal liquification, whether it's biofuels, winds, solar, or nuclear energy.
Members of the Chambersburg community have a plan of their own.
"I only go to the things I need to do now. I've cut out a lot of my running around, and I really believe that if we all have to end up parking our cars and driving scooters, mopeds, whatever it takes," said Chambersburg resident Sandee Young.
Even young drivers say they're excited to finally be behind the wheel, but they don't mind traveling with friends.
"There's an election coming up, and if one party is not listening to the American people, and I think the cry of the American people not just here in south central Pennsylvania but across America is, we need to do something. Stop the bickering. It takes a complete, comprehensive solution, and we know that's the answer," Shuster said.
Shuster believes there is enough coal in America to last the country 250 years.
